About Painting by Number
Painting by Number (paintingbynumber.us) is an independent hobby website for people starting out with paint by numbers. It combines free in-browser tools with beginner-friendly guides, so your first kits turn out the way you hoped.
Who this site is for
Most visitors are beginners: people who have just bought or been given their first kit, parents looking for a calm screen-free activity, and adults rediscovering a hobby from childhood. The guides assume no art training and explain each step in plain language.
Free tools
- Pattern generator, palette extractor and difficulty estimator on the home page - upload a photo to experiment with your own numbered pattern. Images are processed in your browser.
- Paint color mixer for working out mixing ratios when you run short of a color.
- Project time estimator to plan how long a canvas might take.
Beginner guides
Our guides cover choosing a kit for your skill level, getting clean results, color theory basics, the history of the hobby and framing your finished painting. The FAQ answers the most common first-kit questions.
